Scherer’s map of Magellan’s circumnavigation of the world. The map is depicted from the perspective of the North Pole. A truly stunning map which includes on the left hand side an image of the Victoria, the only surviving ship from Magellan’s armada. On the right, the few survivors of the voyage are shown, making their way to the Santa María de la Victoria church in Seville, where they go to give thanks for their safe return. Unfortunately only 18 of the original 237 crew returned home.
